Objectives of the survey
Toolboksi is a technology platform that lets you conveniently access trusted and reliable fundis via web or mobile apps for home and office repairs, maintenance, installations and projects.
The objective of the survey was to better understand car owners and their challenges before tailoring a solution that addresses their challenges. Our plan is to launch a car care service via a digital solution which will be readily available for you to use at any time of the day or night, depending on the circumstances.
The survey targeted car owners and car enthusiasts in the city of Dar es Salaam. The mode of survey was online where it was distributed via social media platforms; Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp.
The questionnaire had a total of 10 questions, both open and closed because our general goal was to understand more about car owners and their experiences in correlation to the services they get from mechanics. Therefore, the questionnaire didn’t include questions of gender, areas of residence, income levels, marital status, names, or contact details. Every question is focused on knowing more about cars. We received a total response from 784 people
Findings
The findings show that the number of Toyota owners is very high compared to other brands. From the results, the owners of BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, and Audi, are summed down to an individual owning two cars or more, also owning Toyota cars as well.
Most of the Toyota car owners chose the specific cars because of their;
Affordability, Maintenance is cost-effective, Availability of spare parts, Fuel consumption, Speed quality and affordable.
While Subaru, Nissan chose it because of the durability, speed and its spaciousness. whereas the BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, and Audi due to its comfort, stability, performance, classy, high quality, its bougie and have an efficient dynamic package.
The report also shows that 79.2% of Toyota car owners can easily access spare parts compared to car owners of other brands mentioned in the questionnaire. Similarly, Toyota car owners frequently visit the local garages and some have their own fundis yet (number) of them still face a similar challenge, they still never get the desired satisfaction, reporting most fundi don’t have a lot of knowledge about servicing their cars. Car owners of brands like BMW, Range Rover, and Audi, experience these challenges to their extreme. Also the survey shows most of the female car owners have their cars fixed by their dad, husband or boyfriend.
In conclusion, there is still a gap in excellent & quality car maintenance and repair services especially. Some of the challenges that car owners face are
- Overpricing
- Fake spare parts
- Dishonest fundis (mechanics)
- No commitment & consistency
- Fundis don’t know what they are doing
- Frequent mistakes
- Lack of expertise + modernisation
- People are not sure of the prices & skill set of the fundis
But, according to our questions they still desired more; here are some of the requests mentioned.
- Mechanics database (including prices)
- Door to Door services
- Skilled, Professional, trustworthy mechanics e.g. Fundi elaborates what he/she is doing on the car.
- 24/7 services
Therefore, based on the data acquired, we are looking forward to creating a one-stop destination platform. A digital solution that gives our customers a simple, secure, and excellent experience with all the fundi (engineers) they come in contact with.
We aim to remove the complexities of our customers’ experience when they deal with fundis. Moreover, there will be an addition of requested features as suggested by our audience from the survey.
