The Sanku Dosifier functions similarly to an electronic scale. It uses a loss of weight technology to accurately dispense a pre-determined amount of premix into the flour as it is milled. Despite the instructions given on how to work the equipment, most of the Sanku dosifiers are spread out through the rural areas in Tanzania making it difficult for the local manufacturers to access a fundi when the dosifiers malfunction.
The partnership between Toolboksi and Sanku aims to facilitate access to equipment maintenance for small-scale fortification (making sure the dosifiers are working seamlessly throughout the year).
In Sub Saharan countries and Tanzania respectively it is very difficult to get access to professional and skilled fundis, especially for technological powered machines such as the dosifiers. As Toolboksi we chose to partner with them because of the impact they are bringing on society.
About Sanku
Sanku is a socially driven initiative of Project Healthy Children (PHC), a US-based organization focused on the design and implementation of national food fortification programs. Designed to fill the nutrient gap of those not accessing centrally processed foods, Sanku works closely with village millers, NGOs, and governments to equip at-risk communities with fortification technology and nutrient premix.
Africa is hardest hit by malnutrition. Most don’t have access to healthy foods, and every meal is primarily starchy flour. Lacking key vitamins and minerals in their diets results in 16,000 children dying globally every day from preventable sicknesses.
Sanku uses the dosifier to add lifesaving micronutrients that are scientifically proven to improve health and vitality, into the food Africans eat the most.
